GI Effects Stool Test in Singapore: Genova’s Comprehensive Gut Health Profile

Your gut is involved in almost everything: digestion, immunity, hormones, mood, energy, and even how your skin looks. When the gut is out of balance, the symptoms often show up far beyond the digestive tract, such as fatigue, brain fog, autoimmune flares, skin issues, anxiety, or stubborn weight, which is exactly why so many people stay stuck on symptom assessment without ever finding the root cause. A comprehensive functional stool test changes that by mapping what is actually happening inside the gut, rather than guessing from symptoms alone.

At NutraNourish, we use the Genova Diagnostics GI Effects Comprehensive Stool Profile, a gold-standard test that combines PCR, culture, microscopy, and MALDI-TOF technology to assess digestion, absorption, inflammation, immune response, dysbiosis, opportunistic pathogens, and the metabolic activity of your microbiome. The sample is collected at home and the results are interpreted by Dr. Menka Gupta to give you a clear, root-cause picture of your gut health.

Find out exactly what is happening inside your gut.

Get a comprehensive view of your digestion, microbiome, and gut inflammation backed by functional medicine, interpreted by Dr. Menka Gupta.

What is the GI Effects Stool Test?

This test uses multiple approaches to evaluating factors contributing to proper digestion (including PCR testing, culture, and microscopic analysis) to produce a comprehensive picture of digestive function, including digestive efficacy, gluten’s impact on the body, inflammation, immune response, and gut microbiome composition. For example, the GI Effects Stool Test provides clinically meaningful information regarding dysbiosis, opportunistic pathogens, and metabolic dysfunction in addition to individual “Functional Disruptive” scores for maldigestion, inflammation, dysbiosis, metabolite issues, and opportunistic infections.

The GI Effects Stool Test can be collected and used in either a single-day version or a three-day version to best accommodate individuals with chronic gastrointestinal issues, as well as those with chronic, systemic conditions such as fibromyalgia and autoimmune diseases.

The GI Effects Profile has been further enhanced with additional improvements that include inflammation-associated dysbiosis scores and the optional integration of Microbiomix, which uses Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to provide a comprehensive metagenomic assessment of the patient’s entire gut microbiome and its potential functions.

Who Should Take a GI Effects Stool Test?

This test is especially valuable if you fall into any of these groups:

  • You experience persistent gas, bloating, abdominal pain, or indigestion that has not been explained by standard tests
  • You suffer from diarrhoea, constipation, or alternating bowel habits
  • You have been assessed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and want to identify the root cause
  • You have been assessed with IBD, including Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis

  • You experience food allergies, food sensitivities, or reactions to multiple foods
  • You have chronic gastrointestinal symptoms that come and go without clear triggers
  • You suspect a parasite, yeast overgrowth, or gut infection (the 3-day version is recommended in this case)
  • You have an autoimmune condition such as Hashimoto’s, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or psoriasis

  • You experience mood disorders, anxiety, or depression that may be linked to the gut-brain axis
  • You have eczema, acne, psoriasis, or chronic skin issues
  • You experience joint pain or systemic inflammation linked to gut dysbiosis
  •  You are managing diabetes, blood sugar instability, or stubborn weight issues

  • Your standard stool tests have come back “normal” but symptoms persist

Gut imbalances rarely resolve on their own and tend to accelerate chronic illness, so testing is especially important for anyone optimising for long-term health rather than just managing symptoms.

If you’re nodding your head “YES” to any of these, this is for YOU.

Stop guessing. Stop relying on multivitamins that may or may not be working. Get the data, get a plan, and start feeling like yourself again.

Your Complete Report

What Will A GI Effects Stool Test Tell Me?

The at-home GI Effects Stool Test gives you a complete, multi-layered view of your gut health. Specifically, it tells you:

Digestion and absorption markers Pancreatic elastase (a measure of pancreatic enzyme output), protein breakdown products, and faecal fat, showing how well your body is breaking down and absorbing food.
Inflammation markers Calprotectin (a critical marker that helps differentiate IBD from IBS), eosinophil protein X, and faecal occult blood, indicating the level of inflammation in the gut.
Immune function markers Secretory IgA, the antibody that defends your gut lining, showing whether your gut immune system is over-active, under-active, or balanced.
Intestinal damage markers Zonulin and lactoferrin, indicating leaky gut and gut wall integrity.
Commensal microbiome (24 strains tested via PCR) The beneficial bacteria that should be thriving in your gut, showing diversity, depletion, and balance across major bacterial families.
Opportunistic and pathogenic bacteria Detected through culture and PCR, including potential drivers of dysbiosis and symptoms.
Yeast and fungi Including Candida overgrowth, identified through culture or PCR.
Parasites Via Ova and Parasites (O&P) microscopy and PCR, with the 3-day version giving higher detection rates.
Specific pathogen screening Clostridium difficile and H. pylori (where included), key pathogens that drive both gut and systemic symptoms.
Gut metabolic markers Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), beta-glucuronidase, and other metabolites that reveal how your microbiome is actually functioning.
Functional Disruptive scores Individual scores across maldigestion, inflammation, dysbiosis, metabolite imbalance, and opportunistic infections, with an additional inflammation-associated dysbiosis score.
Optional Microbiomix (Whole Genome Sequencing) A complete metagenomic assessment of your entire gut microbiome and its functional potential, available as an add-on.

Together, these results pinpoint not just whether your gut is unhealthy but exactly where the problem lies, whether that is poor digestion, an inflamed lining, a depleted microbiome, an active pathogen, or all of the above. That is the foundation Dr. Menka uses to build your personalised gut healing protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The GI Effects Comprehensive Stool Test (GI Effects Comprehensive Profile) by Genova utilizes advanced testing methods (PCR and MALDI TOF) to provide a multi-day stool analysis evaluating digestion, inflammation, and microbiomes. The tests identify imbalances that can help prioritize problems for quick action. In addition to the 3 primary areas measured by other tests, the GI Effects tests provide detailed measurements on 24 commensals, parasites, and metabolites, allowing for root-cause of GI problems.

The Genova GI Effects profile measures digestion (elastase, fat, proteins), inflammation (calprotectin, eosinophil protein X, secretory immunoglobulin A), and microbiomes (commensals, pathogens, short-chain fatty acids, sensitivities). In addition to testing for bacteria, yeast, and parasites, the GI Effects profile provides a comprehensive measurement of dysbiosis (another term for imbalance). Some profiles also measure H. pylori.

You may benefit from a GI Effects stool test if you experience gas, bloating, cramping, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, or symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or irritable bowel disease (IBD). In addition to GI symptoms, consider this test if you have any of the following non-GI symptoms: allergies, autoimmune disease, mood disorders, diabetes, and/or skin and/or joint problems associated with dysbiosis.

The GI Effects stool test can be very beneficial to persons with autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases are often affected by imbalances in gut bacteria, inflammation (calprotectin), and leaky gut markers (e.g., zonulin), all of which can be determined through the use of the GI Effects tests. Once the dysbiosis is addressed, patients often notice improvement in their autoimmune symptoms.

Insurance coverage may differ; commercial insurance plans may not always provide coverage.

Use the kit’s scoop for 1-3 days of stool into its associated tube (use 6 scoops for liquid stool); blend/stir/shake well, then tightly close the lid. No medications or supplements should be taken by the participant during the sample collection, as stated in the instructions; ship the sample according to your kit video instructions.

Discuss the analysis report from the Nutra Nourish practitioner showing scores and other information about the person’s condition; follow the tailored protocol as per the Nutra Nourish gut health plan, you can repeat testing every 3 – 6 months until balanced gut health is reached.
